Tactile Textures In New Zero-Waste Collection
You are invited to see, touch and enjoy the new Maria Sigma textile collection at the Design Nation 'Heroes of Design' exhibition, stand J170 at Decorex, 6-9th October 2019, Olympia London.
Maria Sigma's hand-woven, undyed, woollen textile collection has a raw simplicity which appeals to our 21st century search for honest, ethical and nurturing materials for our home.
Maria hand weaves her fabrics on a traditional wooden loom in a process which has hardly changed for centuries. Her dedication to a zero waste philosophy and her sustainable work ethic can be seen throughout the design and make process. She eschews all dyes as they require large amounts of water and her careful weaving and cutting technique minimises yarn waste.
Using the softest sheep and Alpaca wool sourced from small British farms, Maria combines traditional patterns with geometric motifs to create her timeless collection. The earthy tones of the 100% natural undyed wool are calming on the eye and add to the comforting nature of the blankets and throws.
・DECOREX International | STAND J170・
As Design-Nation enters its 20th year, our partners at premier interiors event Decorex are moving to a new date and a new venue. Design-Nation is delighted to be showing again at Decorex, continuing this long-standing collaboration that has underpinned the success of our high quality portfolio of outstanding contemporary designer-makers, founded in 1999 by the illustrious Peta Levi MBE.
The Decorex exhibition, now in its 42nd year and a leader in international interior design, is moving to the suitably named Grand Hall at Olympia from 6-9 October 2019. Design-Nation will be on stand J170 on the balcony, near to Corinne Julius’s groundbreaking Future Heritage and the Foundations gallery, thus creating a hub of features for outstanding solo designer-makers, both established and emerging talents.
Inspired by our coming of age and looking to the design heroes that fuel creative imaginations, Design-Nation presents nine very special exhibitors, five of whom are new to Decorex. They include Angie Parker & Jonathan Rose* with a new collaborative project: dining chairs with hand-woven upholstery. Emma-Jane Rule* will show foldformed metal sculptures and lighting, and Hugh Miller presents his handmade wooden dining furniture. Other exhibits are handmade sculptural ceramics from Katherine Staples*, handblown glass for interiors by Laura Elizabeth Glass, throws and soft furnishings in British wool and alpaca by Maria Sigma* and Melody Rose’s porcelain tableware.
